CANCER

When your body is injured—for example, if you have a cut, the cells surrounding the cut reproduce to replace the ones that have been harmed. These cells know to stop reproducing once they have “filled in” the cut.

With cancer, one cell gets the idea to reproduce and begins doing so for no obvious reason. The cells that it reproduces form a hard lump. This is cancer. Often, a cell from this lump, or tumor, will spread to another part of the body and begin reproduction there. These cells are not receptive to the normal signal to stop.

No one knows exactly why a cell will do this. We do know, however, some of the agents that cause cancer, such as cigarette smoke. Person who are exposed to this and other irritants have higher rates of cancer. Free radicals damage the cell, often resulting in uncontrolled growth.

There are four main categories of cancer. Carcinomas affect the skin, mucous membranes, glands, and other organs; leukemias are blood cancers; sarcomas affect muscles, connective tissue, and bones; and lymphomas affect the lymphatic system.

One person dies every minute from cancer. Another 3 million have cancer, and one out of three will die from it. There are more than one hundred different varieties of cancer. They all have different causes and vary in aggression (how fast they spread).

Two of what are believed to be the major cause of cancer (known as carcinogens) are environmental factors and diet, with resultant loss of immune defense. Many experts link cancer to stress and diet.

Some types of cancer are treated with chemotherapy and have apparently been cured with this treatment. The side effects of chemotherapy are hair loss, extreme nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, sterility, and damage to the kidneys and heart. Vitamin B6 and coenzyme Q10 help the body avoid some of the damage done by this treatment.

Vitamins and supplements should be taken daily with meals. Vitamin E should be taken before meals. Use only natural vitamins. Vitamin injections should be used when possible. Do not take any drugs except those prescribed by your doctor.

SELF-TESTS

Colon Cancer Self-Test

If you suspect that you have colon cancer, a test kit can be purchased to detect whether blood is in the stool (an early sign of colon cancer). In the newest test, you simply drop a strip of chemically treated paper into the commode after a bowel movement. The paper will change to the color blue if there is blood present in the stool.

If you test positive, take a second test in three days. If the second test is also positive, see your doctor immediately. Remember that the presence of blood in the stool does not necessarily mean you have cancer. The test may prove positive after consuming red meat, or if you have diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, polyps, ulcers, or an inflamed colon. About 10 percent of those who test positive have cancer.

Testicular Cancer Self-Test

Because there is presently no cure for cancer, early detection is extremely important. Cancer can appear anywhere in the body, so self-examination should be conducted regularly. You will be better able to feel for lumps if you check for them after a warm bath or shower when the scrotal skin is relaxed. With the fingers of both hands, examine each testicle, gently rolling each between the thumb and the fingers, checking for hard lumps or nodules. If you find a suspicious lump, see your doctor.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Do not take supplemental iron tablets. The body withholds iron from cancer cells. Studies reported in Volume 319 of New England Journal of Medicine reveal that people with excess iron levels in the blood tend to have an increased risk of developing cancer. Excess iron may suppress the cancer-killing function of the macrophages (an important type of cell that helps repair tissue) and interfere with T- and B-cell activity. The diet outline will supply the necessary amount of iron.

1.     Drink beet juice (from roots and tops), carrot juice (beta-carotene), and asparagus juice often. Dr. Hans Nieper, cancer researcher, is using fresh raw cabbage and carrot juice with excellent results. Grape, black cherry, and all dark-colored juices are good, as are black currants. Also beneficial is apple juice, if it is fresh. Fruit juices are best taken in the morning, and vegetable juices are best taken in the afternoon.

2.     Drink spring or steam-distilled water only!

3.     Eat onions and garlic. Kyolic is an odorless form of specially prepared garlic.

4.     Eat ten raw almonds every day. They are high in laetrile, which acts as anti-cancer agent.

5.     All anti-cancer diets should include grains, nuts, seeds, and brown unpolished rice. Millet cereal is a good source of protein. Eat wheat, oat, and bran. Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower. Also consume yellow and deep orange vegetables such as cantaloupe, carrot juice are used in clinics around the globe. Apples, berries, Brazil nuts, cherries, grapes, legumes (including chickpeas, lentils, and red beans), and plums all help to fight cancer. The berries will protest DNA from damage.

6.     Do not consume the following: junk foods, processed refined foods, saturated fats, salt, sugar, or white flour. Instead of salt, use a kelp or potassium substitute. A small amount of blackstrap molasses or pure maple syrup acts as a natural sweetener in place of sugar. Use whole wheat or rye instead of white flour. Eliminate alcohol, coffee, and all teas except for herbal teas.

7.     Do not eat any animal protein—never eat luncheon meat, hot dogs, or smoke or cured meats. As your condition improves, eat broiled fish three times a week. Restrict consumption of daily products; a little yogurt, kefir milk, or raw cheese occasionally is enough. Do not eat any peanuts. Limit, but don’t eliminate altogether, your intake of soybean products; they contain enzyme inhibitors.

8.     Many cancer patients have good results with the macrobiotic diet.

9.     Cook all sprouts slightly, except alfalfa sprouts.

10.   Take coffee enemas daily. Use cleansing enemas with lemon and water or garlic and water two or three times weekly.

11.    Because of potential low-level radiation leakage, avoid microwave ovens. Use only stainless steel or glassware for cooking. Do not sit close to television sets—sit at least eight feet away. Also avoid x-rays.

12.    Exercise is important.

13.    Avoid chemicals such as hair sprays, cleaning compounds, waxes, fresh paints, and garden pesticides. Chemicals promote the formation of free radicals in the body, which may lead to cancer. Cancer victims will further weaken their immune system by using chemicals. The body expends energy trying to protect itself from the damaging chemicals instead of fighting the cancer. Do not use aerosol products.

CONSIDERATIONS

1.     Obesity is another factor linked to cancer, especially in women. Overweight women are more likely to develop cancer of the uterine lining than other women and tend to do poorly once they have breast cancer. Fat seems to affect female hormones—the greater the amount of fat present, the greater the amount of estrogen converted from androgen-like hormones and made into a much more potent form of the female hormone. Estrogen stimulates cells to divide in the breast and reproductive system. Obesity in men may cause colon and rectal cancer; in women it can cause gallbladder, cervical, uterine, and breast cancer.

2.     A lack of the nutrients beta-carotene, vitamin E, and the B vitamins in lung tissue may be related to lung cancer.  Researchers have found that the presence of calcium allows bile to bond with fatty acids that may irritate the colon lining and cause rapid growth in destructive cells.

3.     Those people whose mother’s smoked during pregnancy are 50 percent more likely to develop cancer later in life. These findings confirm the harmful effects smoking has on the unborn fetus. Smoking is extremely dangerous and leads to cancer no matter what age group is involve
